Uncovering 7 Lesser-Known Family Spots in Miami

Think you’ve ticked off all the Miami hotspots? Or looking to explore with your family beyond the typical tourist spots?

This list of 7 hidden treasures in Miami is curated just for families and showcases the city’s under-explored destinations, promising fun-filled memories for both kids and adults.

Your Base: South Beach
While Miami’s mainland offers several stay options, nothing quite matches the allure of South Beach. Setting up camp here ensures you’re close to all the entertainment, morning or evening.

Our favorite pitstop was the Hilton Garden Inn Miami South Beach, strategically located near main attractions like Ocean Drive and the beach. Most notable places like the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, SoundScape Park, and the Holocaust Memorial were just a short stroll away. Plus, with valet parking available, you can easily ditch your car and opt for biking, walking, or the free trolley ride.

The hotel room offered all the comfort essentials including a Keurig, mini-fridge, and a cozy bed. The fitness center looked inviting, though I gave it a miss. But, starting the day with their sumptuous breakfast was a ritual – the variety, from pancakes to sausages, ensures you’re energized for the day ahead. And if you’re in the mood for a tipple, there’s a bar on-site.

The bottom line: A great combo of location, service, and amenities await you at this Hilton property. Perfect for a family stay!

  1. Upper Buena Vista
Topping my list of Miami’s lesser-known charms is Upper Buena Vista. It’s a unique blend of a bohemian shopping plaza and nature sanctuary. At its heart stands the century-old Bodhi Wishtree, adorned with colorful ribbons.

For a delightful treat, drop by Sweet Epico, known for its pastries, boba tea, and the outstanding tres leches. Complement your treat with a coffee from Finca’s Coffee, where every brew is crafted with beans from organic farms in Honduras.

  1. Superblue Miami
A 2021 addition to Miami’s art circuit, Superblue redefines museum experiences. Explore immersive installations, each more dazzling than the last. And if you’re up for something quirky, step into a world made of… bubbles?
  2. Time Out Market Miami
A culinary voyage awaits you at Time Out Market, where you get a taste of global cuisines in a Miami style. From handcrafted burgers at Little Liberty to pizzas at Square City Pie, and desserts at Azucar Ice Cream Company, it’s a feast for the senses.
  3. Biking South Pointe Park
If you’re all for eco-friendly travel, biking is the way to go in Miami. With rental options galore, especially from Bike and Roll Miami, you can cycle your way through the city’s iconic landmarks. South Pointe Park, with its scenic trails, is a biker’s dream.
  4. Millionaires’ Row Cruise
Experience the lavish side of Miami by cruising along Millionaires’ Row with Miami on the Water. From grand mansions to celebrity islands, the 90-minute ride promises visual treats galore.
  5. Pinecrest Gardens
While Miami boasts many botanical wonders, Pinecrest Gardens, located close to the renowned Fairchild gardens, is a steal at just $5. Wander around to discover waterfalls, lakes, mosaics, and more.
  6. The GGA Gallery at Wynwood Walls
Yes, Wynwood Walls is no secret. But did you know it houses the GGA Gallery indoors? While the walls outside are a riot of colors, the art inside is ever-evolving, always surprising.

P.S.: Kids under 12 enter for free at Wynwood Walls and the GGA Gallery.
